PENDLETON (SAP):

Well sports fans, here we are again….another year and more of my amazing predictions. I have increased my outreach now to include TikTok as a primary source of my analysis of your team’s stats, ratings, abilities and of course what recipes and dance routines fit each team. Let’s dive right in to see how I did last year with the Gaylord Perry Division. I will start with my last place prediction, the Seals (Founders) I picked them 6th and they ended up 6th. Next I picked the Walking Dead 5th and they clawed up to 4th. I then picked my Bucs 4th, but they slid into 3rd somehow. I had high hopes for the Kings at 3rd, but they ended up 5th, my worst prediction last year. Next I picked the Slugs 2nd and they hit the mark at 2nd. Well, well, well, I picked Sturm’s team to win and lo and behold, they did, 1st Place! 3 out of 6, I will take that. Now here they are the 2024 predictions for the Perry Division from worst to first: Last place (6th), Walking Dead. The Walkers ace, Merrill Kelly leads a staff of 3 full time Starters, but he is the only one with an ERA under 4. The last two Starters will be young Mackenzie Gore and a committee to fill #5. It is a young staff, except for Merrill who may be dealt by the All-Star Break if this team is not winning. Good middle relief and a pair of good closers round out this evolving staff. If the young starters continue to develop and Singer bounces back, 2025 might be interesting. The Walkers have some very young batters, which normally means a lot of swing and miss and some exciting power. Marty has two hitters with over 20 HRs and one 300 hitter. There are however, 8 players with 10 or more home runs. Speed is not a threat on this team and most of the OBP are quite pedestrian. Good young team, but it will need another year to be competitive. 5th Place, 5 Pack. This analyst has taken some heat in the open media for constantly undervaluing teams owned by the Sturm corporation. So, in an attempt to put lipstick on this pig, I will highlight the best possible outcome for this team. The 5 Pack (still a great team name) went heavy on left-handed pitching this year in hopes that the software finally acknowledges them as human. Braxton Garrett is the statistical #1 among the starters with a 3.66 ERA. He and Ryne Nelson will learn from the veterans of the staff as the others are all over 30 years of age, but have a solid number of innings pitched. Unfortunately, the workhorses of the staff all have ERAs over 5. Part time starters like Paxton, Irvin, Littell, and Sanchez have better numbers, but lack innings until you pair them. Aaron Judge is on this team, that coupled with 10 hitters with over 10 home runs gives some pretty decent run support, but only 3 hitters batting over 260. Nice mix of veterans and youth, much like the pitching staff. It appears this team is using more part time players than other teams are. Interesting approach for sure. I want to rate this team higher, but I am out of lipstick. 4th Place, Sluggers: The pitching staff is in the flux of a rebuild. Two part time aces in Ohtani and McClanahan, but a committee after that. IP may be a problem as the season progresses. Middle relief is there, but not great and there is not a pure closer on the team. Definitely looking to the future with this staff if DeGrom comes back and Pepiot lives up to his potential….look out in 25! Will they or will they not slug this year? I must say they will slug! Ohtani, Muncy, Bellinger, Outman, McMahon and Happ will ensure the fans get their share of long ball slugging. Two 300 hitters in the lineup as well doesn’t hurt. Much like the Bucs, this team will lose a lot of games due to their pitching and even the sluggers can’t make up the runs. 3rd Place, BUcs. This is a classic Skalon pitching staff….mid 4.00 eras for the starters, a little middle relief and a couple of decent closers. Drafting for youth and the future has its price and that price is paid in earned runs. Clearly the Achilles heel of the 2024 Bucs. The offense should make for some exciting baseball, at least in runs scored. The Bucs have their Atlanta Braves’ duo in Acuna and Albies to provide punch as well as Casas who may have found his swing finally. This team has a little speed, little power, and a young core. Not a playoff team with the pitching woes, but definitely on a build. Will they ever get to capitalize the ‘C’ in their name? Not this year. 2nd Place, Kings of Kaufman. This is team in transition but still has 3 SPs <4.00 era in Castillo, Eflin, and Peralta, that is a great start to a rotation; committee of starters after that. If you can keep Eury Perez healthy enough to get 130 innings, very solid rotation. Probably best middle relief in the Division, but no natural closer evident. As long as injuries and expiration do not plague this team, the pitching can carry them. Only 1 .300 hitter and only 1 power hitter w/over 30, in fact 40 HRs. This team has an interesting mix of youth and win-now veterans. Hard to see which way this team is leaning this year. I would compare this to the Bosox in MLB in 2023 and 2024. This team should win over 80 games as long as the 5th starter committee comes through. Could be a playoff team with a little software magic. 1st Place, Founders. Love this team name….the Founders! The Founders have the best starting rotation in the Perry Division, led by Kyle Bradish and his sub 3 ERA. Innings pitched will be a factor for this staff as only 3 of the SPs have over 150 Innings. The other two have 120 innings each, but they may be ok as the ‘committee’ of remaining starters equate to a total of over 180 innings. Great middle relief and a stock of closers….strong staff. Along with the best pitching, this team boasts the most players with over 30 home runs with 3. If you pair that up with the 4 hitters with over 20 and another 4 with over 10 home runs, you have a solid power hitting team. Not the most dominant team I have seen, but more than enough for winning the Perry and a playoff run. There you have it, I have predicted a worst to first and a fifth place team to second place. I am convinced at the top two, but the other 4 could shuffle during the season. Yes, that is my disclaimer. The stage is set and the season is upon us, who will prove me right and who will prove me wrong? Good luck everyone!
